Montefalco Sagrantino
Montefalco Sagrantino is a powerful, dry, red wine from Umbria which is made 100% of Sagrantino grapes.
Before these wines may be marketed, it must mature for at least 30 months, of which at least 12 in wooden casks.
The maturation process of Montefalco Sagrantino ensures (together with the high concentration of tannins) that this is one of the best aging wines from Italy.
The color of Sagrantino is deep dark purple when the wine is young and dark ruby red when it is older. The taste is powerful and earthy with lots of dark fruit.
Most Montefalco Sagrantino wines are best drunk when they are seven years old at least.
Montefalco Sagrantino has the DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) status, the highest in Italy.
